WW1 German Fur Felt Ersatz M95 Prussian Pickelhaube
A very nice untouched example of the fur felt bodied cloth covered pickelhaube for enlisted men this being the M95 ersatz issue.
Interestingly this helmet would have originally been field grey in appearance however the vegetable dye used for the covering in that period was prone to fade when exposed to sunlight & water . A field grey oilcloth trim runs around the lower edge of the helmet with a thin leather ' Orenleder ' reinforcing piece under the M91 chinstrap post has survived in good order on both sides. To the interior is a black oilcloth lining whise tongues have survived in very good condition. To the underside of the rear peak are multiple regimental markings suggesting reissue in those early days of WW1.
Finally chinstrap is totally original a came with the helmet there is a small repair to the left side ( See images ) .
