Published Battle Damaged M95 Ersatz Pickelhaube - Feldzug 1914

Featured on pages 137-138 of Feldzug 1914 by collector the late Michael Baldwin this enlisted mans M95 Prussian pickelhaube is an ersatz example in pressed steel with what was most likely a fatal shrapnel strike to front peak.
Made of one piece black shellacked light gauge steel it has a good quality gilded front plate mist usually found on pre war helmets. The interior leather lining is in good order with its original chinstrap still present. As was the case with pickelhauben these were standard issue worn in battle before the introduction of the steel helmet in 1916 & so the chinstraps were usually worn down. As is the case with many of these that have turned up as souvenirs the chinstrap is still down having come straight from the wearers head & left as it was found.
