WW1 Austro-Hungarian Oilcloth 'Foul Weather' Shako
Rare 1902 model Austro-Hungarian Officers private purchase infantry foul weather oilskinned covered shako otherwise known as the 'KOMMODE' .
These were worn in the field in the very early war period by officers of Austro-Hungary however were soon found to be totally unsuited for trench warfare & replaced by other forms of headgear until their late adoption of the steel helmet in 1917.
This piece is in excellent condition with an Oberleutnants name written to underside of front peak. The high quality champagne lining is intact with only some age decay to thin leather sweatband in places.
