WW1 British Shell Carrier

A rare set of the WW1 Artillery gunners body worn shell panniers this example for the carriage of 4.5 inch howitzer shells. This specific item of WW1 gunners equipment has been immortalized forever by the depiction of one on the Royal Artillery memorial statue at Hyde Park Corner.
Made of heavy canvas webbing each thigh pocket is a large bucket compartment for the shells with two large gauge handles & a heavy duty brown leather securing strap which fastens across the chest.
Ink stamped with the calibre for which it was intended of ' Q.F.4.5In HOW' & the maker ' CARPENTER BRO 1918 /I '.
In excellent condition these are seldom encountered today.
