A midwar period WW2 US M1 helmet with front seam & swivel bales .
The totally wartime original cork mixed factory OD green painted shell is a Schleuter made production as denoted by the large 'S' to lip & has a front seam which denotes pre November 1944 manufacture. The swivel bales were introduced in November 1943 this issue of helmet known to have reached the European theatre of operations in the Autumn of 1944. An embossed 'F' to the interior crown of the liner denotes the maker ' Firestone' . The camouflage net is typical of those used in the ETO . Chinstrap buckle is of blackened brass these being seen at the end of 1942. Liner chinstrap may well be a later replacement & so is not guaranteed of WW2 period.
