WW2 German Infantry Assault Badge In Bronze
On June 1st 1940 a bronze version of the Infantry Assault Badge was introduced for award to men of Motorized Infantry units. The previous silver version did not extend to personnel of motorised infantry units. Die struck, partially scoop backed & of alloy it has a bronze wash to front & back . The original colour is visible almost in full to the rear. The crisply detailed badge features an embossed, vertically oval, oak-leaf wreath with a Wehrmacht style eagle with down-swept wings, superimposed to the top center. A rifle with fixed bayonet and sling is centre piece to this award. Pin no longer remains & I cannot see a maker mark.
