Argonne Forest Captured WW1 German M16 Helmet - Inscribed 'Grand Pre Sur Argonne' With Rare 'W' Maker Mark
This captivating rare maker & large sized German M16 helmet is an American soldiers souvenir from 'Grand Pre' which is a place in the North Western corner of the Argonne Forest.
Written on the front are the words ' Grande Pre Sur Argonne' which is an area well fought over by American & German forces in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive of 1918. With much of its green factory paint finish uncleaned & still remaining all three of its liner pins are original to the helmet & undisturbed. Interior shows the rarer maker mark & size 'W66' for 'Hermann Weissenberger & Co' . Two of its original cushion holders remain still retaining their cushions within each.
