WW1 Imperial German Gummimaske & M16 Carrying Tin

An M15 Gummimaske this being the later improved version wiht its M16 carrying tin.
Various versions of this mask exist each being a slight improvement on the last . This piece still has its head harness system entirely made of elastic this replaced by springs as of late 1917. An ad hoc mixture of light & dark grey with a small black piece have been used , the black elastic is totally wartime & can be seen more predomintly on some examples ( Refer Feldzug 1917 Pg 128 ) . There is a soldiers name 'Freter' on one of the headstraps with various faint inspection marks to the facepiece. Filter still retains original green factory paint with ink stamped marking & date ' Agfa 3.3.16 '. Carrying tin is of the M16 model with inverted reinforcing ridge to centre which prevented the mask becoming trapped if the tin was knocked. A wire cross was fitted to the underside of the lid in which spare eye pieces could be carried this an improvement on the previous design which was not issued with spare lenses. Instruction label still present at bottom of tin. Finally with its original long & short carrying straps these are totally correct for this tin.
Much information on the WW1 German Gummimaske & its variations can be found in the Feldzug book series by the late & great expert Michael Baldwin , I cannot recommend this series highly enough !
