WW1 German Bavarian Artillery Officers 1886 Pickelhaube
A fine example of the 1886 Bavarian Artillerie pickelhaube with brass fittings & rounded convex chinscales . This helmet would have been worn by Regiments 1-12 from 1886 until 1916 when it was briefly replaced by the ball top style.
Of black leather body the gilt brass fittings remain bright with chinscales slightly convex & secured by rosettes on each side with the blue of Bavaria to left & national colours to right. Front plate is of the pre 1914 model interwined with laurel wreath , later versions were simplified excluding the wreath & slightly smaller overall in size. The fluted spike rests upon a cross base secured by gilt star stud retainers. Interior is complete & of a typically impressive high quality.
Overall striking piece bearing typical service wear with very small hairline fissure to removeable spike ( See image ).
