A WW2 US M1 helmet & liner with soldiers name & serial number pianted to shell.
This helmet is of midwar construction with 'S' to underside of front lip denoting manufacture by 'Schleuter' . With front seam & swivel bales this pattern of helmet is generally accepted as reaching the frontlines in Europe around the fall of 1944. A blackened brass chinstrap buckle & closure hook are fitted these seen late 1943. To the interior of the shell is the soldiers name artistically painted in reading 'Art Bennack 18197521' . Liner is a very heavily worn 'Firestone' made example & still with its original wartime issue paint to exterior. Interior has tan webbing system . A washers are of the green painted steel pattern made from mid 1943 to mid '44.
A helmet open to further research & no doubt a combat veteran of WW2.
