Published WW1 German Battle Damaged Brow Plate
A rare example of the German WW1 brow plate which can be seen on double page spread pg 124 & 125 of the Oliver Lock reference book 'Stahlshutzhelme'.
These were fitted to the front of the German steel helmet when in static & dangerous positions along the front line.
Weighing 2kg they were of course unpopular & mostly discarded in the mud hence surviving examples are rare today. This piece has traces of its original green paint to surfaces with bell maker marking to lower inside corner associated with the Richard Lindenberg company. There is clear evidence of battle damage & deformation no doubt a piece that has undoubtedly seen action in the trenches of WW1.
