WW1 German Saxon Train Pickelhaube - ‘Luxury’ Quality Private Purchase
A fabulous Saxon supply train officers pickelhaube in stunning condition. This pickelhaube is a high quality private purchase example of fibre construction rather than the usual boiled leather of more standard examples.
With brass & nickel Saxon front plate all the features of this piece point to it being from a supply train officer . The domed scales of mounted troops confirm that this officer was horse bourne which was typical for train officers as opposed to the flat scales of non mounted infantry troops. The pronounced shape of the helmet is a Saxon feature that works with the badge , this commonly referred to as the classic cylindrical Saxon form . The height of the spike is also of note being generally higher as a statement of superiority in the prewar years. Both cockades are totally correct with green to its state colours side. Interior is of typical high quality with silk two part lining & leatherette headband.
Overall stunning piece which would take pride of place in any advanced Imperial German headgear collection.
