Barracks Gate Guard REME - From Poperinghe Barracks
A large REME unit gate crest originally coming from Poperinghe Barracks , Arborfield which closed in 1977.
This barracks was named after the well known Belgium battle area & was built in 1939. It became a trainign depot for the REME in the immediate postwar period.
Measuring 19 inches high & with wall mounting ( including bolt ) to reverse.
'Upon a lightning flash, a horse forcene gorged with a coronet of four fleur-de-lys, a chain reflexed over its back and standing on a globe. Above, a crown upon a scroll bearing the letters REME. Lightning flash, scroll and crown to be gilt; horse and globe to be silver."
