WW2 British 'B.E.F Issue/ Dunkirk' MkIV Gas Mask With Rare EA Filter
A very rare original British Army 1939 pattern MKIV EA Respirator as used by the British Expeditionary Force in France in 1939 and 1940.
This pattern of gas mask was introduced in October 1939 when Porton Down decreed the need for extra arsine smokes which the Germans were already protected against. This led to the EA version of the MKIV respirator which features a distinctive extra, smaller sized canister which is fitted between the facepiece and the main canister. This pattern saw widespread issue in France in 1939 and 1940 and featured in many period photographs, including those of Dunkirk beach which show many discarded examples.
