WW1 French Infantry ' Premier Tenue' Kepi
A French infantry officers kepi of the prewar 'Foulard' style these were still being worn in 1914 prior to the introduction of the new Horizon Blue uniform.
Kepi has rank braid for a higher ranking officer & is of the 'Premier Tenue' style with removeable 'Ornement et Pompon Spherique ' insignia to front for ceremonial wear. The seven flamed genade denotes infantry as well as these repeated on the gilt chinstrap buttons. An officers field chinstrap remaisn intact to its front. Interior of cap is in a quality 'rouge' satin lining this having the initials of the officer with 'Calais-Royal' tailor details.
Overall in very good condition with a couple of minor moth nips to the wool in places & light service wear .
