WW1 British Dorset Regiment 'Wolseley' Helmet -Mesopotamia/Gallipolli Unit
An early British Wolseley sun helmet with green flashes to each side for the Dorset Regiment & date 1907 to interior of helmet. It is not beyond the realms of possibility that this man was involved in the Gallipoli campaign.
Definately a piece that has seen much service the pugaree remains intact with both flashes 100% original to the helmet having suffered moth attack to each side. Interior is ink stamped with 1907 dated depot stamp & 'Vero Everitt' oval ink stamp. the soldiers initials are also visible.
GALLIPOLI, :- The 5th battalion took part in the Gallipoli campaign & were evacuated from there in December 1915 before going to Egypt then the Western Front in Jul 1916.
The 2ND BATTALION Dorsets were in Poona,India when war broke out in 1914 & were shipped as part of the 16th Indian Brigade to Mesopotamia where it was trapped in the sige of Kut & captured by the Turks. Only 70 out of 350 survived their captivity.
