WW1 French 81st Artillery Regiment Uniform
An early French Artillery officers uniform from the 1915 period with red collar tabs of the type in use from November 1914 until April 1915 with embroidered numbers here of '81' for the 81st Artillery Regiment.
Very much based on the M1913 officers tunic it is produced in light blue gabardine again the lighter colour indicative of 1915 rather than later. To the left sleeve are four front line service chevrons & to the right sleeve two service chevrons indicating that he was wounded twice. The Aiguilette is in the colours of the Croix de Guerre awarded to the 81st AR & worn as a representation of this . The simplified rank insignia to each sleeve indicates a Sous-Lieutenant. Crossed cannon buttons throughout. The inside pocket has a name label with partially legible name that may be deciphered with some effort. Taiolrs label to rear . Tunic comes with the original red piped trousers .
A very good front line officers tunic showing heavy wear from a French Artillery officer who no doubt wore this on active service throughout WW1.
