WW1 German 65th (4th Wurttemberg) Field Artillery Kugelhelme
A wonderful Artillery Kugelhelme from a 65th (4th Wurttemberg) Field Artillery senior NCO .
This is an issue pickelhaube that has been upgraded in line with his promotion by the addition of chinscales & NCOs perling to the ball rather than the officers pattern which is different. Top plate has NCO rivets rather than the officers star pattern & the cockades are of the NCOs pattern with two rings. This prewar soldier has evidently gone from being a regular soldier in the regiment to a Reservist which is the most likely point at which Senior NCO rank was attained. His helmet plate would also have been changed from regular to reserve (bearing the reservists cross on his new plate) hence evidence of his previous regular army plates fitment before this one with the lug holes filled at the time. Regimental markings to underside of rear peak read ' FAR 65' with what appears to be a garniture marking to the other side of it.
Superb helmet & not commonly encountered.
