WW2 Fleet Air Arm N -Type Flying Helmet
A very good used example of the Fleet Air Arm type 'N' helmet intended for use in tropical/desert climates in the Middle East, Mediterranean, North Africa etc. These helmets incorporate a neck flap at the rear to provide sun protection. The canvas material has no rips or tears & is grubby through service wear. The helmet is fitted with zipped leather earpieces both in working order with leather pull minus from right side. The satin lining shows wear with a couple of holes to inside top edge but overall is in good condition most very worn through sweat damage. Markings to lower inside edge give size '61/2 To 7' with 'No.2' Leather chinstrap and Bennett buckle intact & in good supple condition as are all the snap fastened tabs. Studded for use with early Type D oxygen masks as well as the later E, G & series masks. Faint Air Ministry King's crown stamp to outer edge.
A very good used example of this rarer variant of the D-series helmets.
