WW2 Japanese Army Type 90 Helmet and Cover
As far as covered Japanese Army helmets go this one would be very very hard to improve upon . A typical text book Army Type 90 helmet in the rarer smaller size fitted with its original and field modified first pattern cover . The cover is a very scare early version having to the front the Star insignia upon a wool disk factory applied prior to the covers inner white face being applied . What remains of the star is about 75% of the fine rice paper backing . The tight gabardine like fabric has seen hard service use and is grubby and been there with much character .The most outstanding feature is the thin double row of twin carefully sewn to the covers outer face to facilitate application of foliage . The covers inner face is in the off white gauze like lose calico material and bear the three ink stampings including Manfactures info and small inspectors stamp as well as the typically un filled in personal info box . The original tie cord is present with its hand applied bar tack detail at the rear . The important inner seam overlock detail is correct . The helmet has a high percentge of its early /mid war Imperial brown paint that is dry and marked where the cover has sat in place forever . To the shells rear is the correct off white hand applied kanji character for size small . The liner is the classic pig skin army type with three rear bar tack stitches punced size kanji indicator and a good clear 16 stamp under the front pad for 1941. All the chinstraps remain in a super and salty condition with their correct hand mitred tips . This makes a true centre piece ,top shelf + helmet
