WW2 British Chief Wardens Helmet 1939
A classic Home Front helmet being a senior Air Raid Wardens helmet with double black stripe on white signifying the rank of Chief Warden.
A helmet that has certainly seen service during & after the Air Raids it shows heavy wear with scuffing & chips to the paint. Having started life as a MkII khaki painted helmet it was overpainted in accordance with the marking schemes of Britains civil defence personnel , as here. The maker & date of 'EC&Co 1939' can be seen to underside of rim with 'Helmets Ltd 1939' to liner cradle. An identification aiding nametag was once tied to the helmets liner this having mostly gone now & just the string & eyelet reinforcement remaining.
A fascinating piece of Britains Home Front history.
