WW1 German Breadbag 1916 ( KRAG Stamped For Ersatz Issue )

A WW1 German breadbag of midwar construction having within a rectangle the initials 'K.R.A.G.' & the date '16'. This marking is a shorthand abbreviation for 'Kreigs-Ausschuss' which is abbreviated from ' Kreigs-Ausschuss fur Gummi und Ersatzstoffe' the War Committee for Rubber & Substitute Materials . Because of raw material shortages more & more Ersatz/substitute materals were used with testing labs & war production committees approving alternative materials for military field gear. There is also the large ink stamped number '2' on the main body & also a faint unit stamp which on basic inspection I am unable to decipher. Inside the bag is a handstitched white name tag which is now faint & undecipherable Both belt loop buttons are original to the bag as is the single leather tab & D ring. Two buttons are minus from the inner left side & the leather securing strap has lost its bottom third or so. Nice crosstitched period field repair to front & very hard to find now.
