Featured on page 124 of Helmets of the First World War by Michael Haselgrove this M17 helmet is a classic example of those posted home by US servicemen . Helmet has remains of the potage stamps on the top of the shell with address labels stuck to the exterior of the helmet giving its destination as an address in Virginia , USA & sent by a Major HH Trout. Helmet has name of the German soldier painted into the rear of the helmet ' Kan .Fink 3/140' the 'kan' being the artillery rank of Kanonier (Gunner). Metal M17 liner band has all original pins intact with all three of its cushion holders still containing their cushions. Fingers pulled , the green drawstring is original to the helmet & an example of later war materials in use.
