WW1 British War Office Brodie Helmet With Hessian Camouflage Cover
Featured on Pg421 of 'History of the Steel helmet In the First World War Vol 2 ' By Michael Haselgrove this is an early War Office pattern Brodie helmet in apple green with the remains of a hessian camouflage cover still in situ. Helmet has had a rough textured finish applied to its exterior with fraying & wear to the cover much indicative of a heavily trench worn helmet. Underside of the shell bears the markings ' HS ( Hadfield Steel ) with partially legible batch number. It is note that one of the chinstrap lugs has been depot repaired this very old & of the period. A well worn liner which still has its drawstring in place , chinstrap present although the buckle end of short section is now minus.
