WW2 German 12cm Mortar Charge Container 1943
The 120mm heavy mortar was the favorite of the front line troops. Originally a Russian weapon (120PM-38), it was copied by the Germans and became a standard 12cm Granatwerfer 42-12cm Gr.W. 42, the German designation of the captured Russian weapons was 12cm Gr.W.378(r)-russ38-. This container held the Teilkartuschen (powder increments) that could be attached to the shell to give it extra range. Lid marked, Zusatzldg.12cm Gr.W.42, 12cm Gr.W.378 (r)-russ38- .
Used condition with maker & 1943 date to bottom of tin.
I have , so far, been unable to remove the lid from the tin however the previous owner h as removed it in the past & confirms it is empty.
