These were only ever designed to carry sidearms although curiously had the provision for carriage of a sword with sword hook mounted into the webbing. This example is 'MECO' marked ( Mills Equipment Co ) & dated 1936.  read more

An interesting study of early WW2 US headgear would certainly include the M17A1 helmet which was the standard steel helmet used by US forces up until the introduction of the M1 in 1941 .
A British WW1 pattern adopted by the US army in 1917 the helmet was upgraded in 1936 with the addition of a new leather liner & buckled chinstrap.
